Park Village

A series of interventions to improve the functioning of a photography studio and events venue in Camden. Park Village Studios has occupied the former stables and horse parade since the 1960's. It has been developed over this period in an ad hoc manner which has created the idiosyncratic character that has made it an attractive studio to work in. There were nevertheless some systemic issues with the building particularly with its more recent use as an events venue. The client wanted to find solutions to improve the function of the building and modernise parts of it, but without losing the character of the space. The designs are a series of interventions which have been and continue to be implemented over time. The new steel stair over a horse ramp provides independent access to the former stabling block to allow it to function separately from the main studio. Small cellular spaces have been connected to provide a working production office. A service area and flexible enclosure allow for various uses of the Stable venue space. New counters installed throughout the main studio provide flexible work space.
