A fit-out for a specialist wine shop and bar in Wapping. The design seeks to emphasise the area’s character and heritage as part of London’s historic docklands. The stripped-out bare brick walls expose a record of former interiors. The new elements of the bar and shop are conceived as an assemblage of industrial materials within the stripped down interior. The use of wine boxes as one of the principal elements in the wine library is a reference to the notion of the containment and transport of wine, integral to Wapping’s history. The use of marble for the bar ends provides a counterpoint to the otherwise crude material pallet. The bar is situated at the centre of the space. This defines specific areas of front, rear, bar and shop, which allows the staff to monitor and relate to these spaces at all times.
